About us
Balaclava Glass started in 1959 and operated out of a 200sqm property in Nelson Street, Balaclava. The business was built firmly around servicing the local St Kilda area, which we proudly still do to this day.
The business was purchased by the current owners, The Mitten Family in 1987.
Rapid growth necessitated a move out of the small Nelson Street factory, which is now operated as a local café. Whilst a temporary factory in Chapel Street held the business for four years, a significant move to Braeside began in 2015, along with an expansion into manufacturing with state-of-the-art European machinery.
Whilst no longer in Balaclava anymore, our home in Braeside now spreads across 3000sqm, three factories and includes a glass tempering furnace, laminate processing facility, water jet, edge polishing and two CNC machines delivering high quality and perfectly accurate product that can accommodate any shape and size.
Our Vertical CNC machine was the first of its kind in Australia and New Zealand, and the factory layout designed specifically to optimize operations is now replicated across factories throughout the region.
At Balaclava Glass our family values combine with advanced technology and a dedication to both our new and long-term clients. We have the capacity and capability to service a diverse range of projects from individual architectural homes to high rise apartment buildings and office and commercial fit outs.
Our knowledge and experience are extensive, there is no glass problem we can’t manage.
